Barley Prairie Stew

What you need:
* 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
* 1-1/2 tsp. salt, divided
* 1-1/2 tsp. ground black pepper, divided
* 1 lb. stew meat, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
* 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
* 5 carrots, sliced
* 4 stalks celery, sliced
* 1 medium onion, chopped
* 8 c. beef broth
* 1 tsp. garlic powder
* 1 tsp. dried sage
* 1 tsp. dried oregano leaves
* 1 tsp. dried thyme leaves
* 3/4 c. pearl barley
* 1 pkg. (8 oz.) small white mushrooms, sliced
* 1 red bell pepper, chopped
What to do:
1. In plastic bag combine flour and 1/2 tsp. each salt and pepper.
Add meat in batches and shake to coat.
2. Heat oil in large pot with lid. Add meat; stir and cook until browned.
3. Add carrots, celery, onion, beef broth, seasonings, remaining 1 tsp. each salt and pepper, and barley. Cover and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to simmer, cover and cook 45 min.
4. Stir in mushrooms and bell pepper; cook 15 min. more.
